    London, GB

Ash Carpentry & Construction Ltd Carrying out work in Surrey, South London and surrounding areas. Ash Carpentry and Construction consists of a hard working, driven team who pride themselves on having a close working relationship with their clientele and delivering to a high standard. From early design phase to completion, we can assist in all aspects of your build, tailoring the work to suit your budget, style and requirements, ensuring you get the finish you want. Our History The background to our company directors Adam and Tim. Adam carried out his apprenticeship whilst employed by DMB Carpentry & Joinery. Gradually working his way up and gaining more experience, he began managing sites across London and Surrey. From here Adam branched out, working for several local building firms, running projects once they were past the structural phases. This allowed him to develop close relationships with customers and subcontractors alike, building a solid network around him. Whilst studying Civil Engineering at Loughborough University, Tim worked part-time on building sites where he also developed a passion for the practical side of construction. Upon graduating, Tim started his career with an Esher based building company where he focused predominantly on, and ended up running, the structural side of projects whilst becoming a fully qualified carpenter. During this time he joined forces with Adam. With Adam’s experience in the industry and Tim’s background in engineering, they eventually began running large projects together, complementing and combining their skill sets. After several years working alongside one another, Ash Carpentry and Construction was established. Our Company We liaise with our clients, personalising each project to their individual vision and requirements. As members of the Asbestos Removal Contractors Association (ARCA) we have been represented on the ARCA Governing Council for over a decade. Certifications are held for ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 demonstrating the organisation’s commitment to quality, environmental and Health and Safety procedures and processes respectively. A further six accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, Achilles, and British Safety Council. Additional accreditations have been achieved via Altius (Assured & CDM) confirming competency within a retail environment. For larger projects where LAR undertakes the role of principal contractor, we’ve engaged the Considerate Contractor Scheme – our commitment to site safety standards. Our business also benefits from having its own waste transfer station and the company is accredited with both an Environment Agency Waste Management Licence and a Waste Carriers Licence. A brief history LAR was founded in 1997 after a management buyout of Laing Asbestos Removal – part of John Laing Construction Ltd. As a result the directors and many of the operational staff have over 30 years’ experience in the removal of asbestos, having safely and effectively carried out projects across the UK, Europe and Africa with project values of up to £3.5 million. Market sectors We specialise in providing a Health and Safety conscious method of working in a wide range of industry sectors including: NHS MOD local authority leisure petro-chemical facilities management higher education retail housing associations utilities (water, gas, electric and nuclear) The future At LAR we work extremely hard to ensure that we are at the top of our game when it comes to Health and Safety, quality and performance. Our ethos of working with clients in order to fully understand their requirements and tailoring solutions to suit their individual needs, has resulted in repeat business year on year for over 20 years. Higher Education The Higher Education sector forms one of the largest sources of repeat business for LAR. The size, age and complexity of university estates ensures LAR has an almost continuous presence on some of the UK’s campuses. Public sector (OJEU contracts) LAR has made a concerted effort to secure long-term public sector work which is tendered via the Official Journal of the Europen Union. Although competition often comes from contractors all over the UK, LAR has secured a number of high-profile contracts based upon both quality and pricing submissions. Retail/leisure The retail sector has been specifically targeted by LAR as an area of growth in recent years and has seen the business awarded approved contractor and framework status with a number of high-profile organisations. We have adapted to this unique sector and developed systems for working within a highly challenging environment. We now service a large number of multi-site retailers on a national scale from both a planned and reactive call-out perspective. NHS The NHS has historically been a strong sector for LAR. Similarl to Higher Education, this sector has large property portfolios of diverse building types and ultimately many buildings with asbestos still present within them. Local authority Separate to the OJEU tendered contracts, LAR undertakes a significant amount of public sector work via local authority construction partners and main contractors. Some of the largest projects which LAR has undertaken have been within this sector. International Through undertaking projects of significant size and complexity within the UK, LAR has been identified as a business which has the capabilities and resources to take the high standards of the UK industry to the international marketplace. Utilities The utilities sector has been one of the largest sectors of growth for LAR in recent years. We now service clients across all sub sectors which include water, gas, electricity, petro-chemical and nuclear. Whatever the task, we can handle it. Rest assured, we have the resources and infrastructure in place to offer a solution to any asbestos abatement project. Our promise LAR will continue moving forward, innovating, practicing best standards and staying ahead of legislation in order to consolidate our position at the very forefront of the asbestos removal industry. Alongside this we will be continuing to raise the bar in terms of staff development, site standards and Health and Safety. We aim to continue developing long-term relationships with regional, national and international organisations as well as helping businesses to remain compliant.

Frequently Asked Questions About Excavation Contractors

Need help with an excavation project? Find answers to common questions about excavation contractors and hiring excavation services in UK.

What is site preparation in excavation?

Site preparation involves readying the excavation site for work, including clearing vegetation, removing obstacles, marking utility lines, and establishing access for equipment. It’s a crucial step that ensures safety and efficiency during the excavation process.

What type of excavator do I need?

The type of excavator best suited for your project depends on the scope of the work:
  • Compact Excavators: Ideal for smaller residential projects, landscaping, and work in confined spaces.
  • Standard Excavators: Versatile machines for a wide range of projects, including digging foundations, trenching, and loading materials.
  • Large Excavators: Used for heavy-duty excavation, demolition, and large-scale construction projects.
  • Long-Reach Excavators: Designed for demolition and excavation in hard-to-reach areas, such as tall buildings or deep trenches.
An experienced excavation contractor can help determine the most appropriate excavator for your specific needs.

What are the different types of excavation?

There are various types of excavation, each with a specific purpose:
  • Trench Excavation: Creating narrow, long ditches for utilities (pipes, cables).
  • Basement Excavation: Removing soil for a basement or foundation.
  • Pool Excavation: Digging for swimming pools or ponds.
  • Roadway Excavation: Preparing for road construction or repairs.
  • Borrow Excavation: Removing soil from one location for use in another.
  • Channel Excavation: Creating waterways or drainage channels.

How do I prevent erosion after excavation?

After excavation, erosion control measures are essential to prevent soil loss and water runoff. Common methods include:
  • Seeding and Mulching: Planting grass or other vegetation and covering the bare soil with mulch helps stabilize the soil and prevent erosion.
  • Erosion Control Blankets: These biodegradable blankets are made from natural or synthetic fibers and placed over the soil to prevent erosion while vegetation establishes.
  • Silt Fences: Temporary fences installed along the perimeter of the excavation site to trap sediment and prevent it from entering nearby water bodies.
  • Retaining Walls: Used to hold back soil and prevent erosion on slopes.
  • Drainage Systems: Proper drainage systems can direct water away from the excavated area, preventing erosion and pooling.
